In an official update posted on EA.com, the controversial games publisher has announced that they are shutting down online services for over forty video games across PC, Mac, Linux, Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. The list includes some terribly old, and unpopular games, but is mixed in with the likes of behemoths like Battlefield 2142, Command & Conquer 3, Crysis 2, Bulletstorm, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, amongst many others.
This sudden shutdown of so many big titles is due to the fact that GameSpy – the service which handled the services for these games on certain platforms – is shutting down later this month.
EA has stated that they are working on working to transition these games to new servers
